Advocating for Excellence in Education Through Experience

Early life

I'm Dawn, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about my journey with you. I hail from the vibrant north side of Milwaukee, a community that has shaped who I am today.
After navigating the halls of Custer High School, I embarked on the exciting adventure of higher education at UW-Milwaukee. There, I earned my stripes and proudly graduated with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. As the third of four spirited girls, you could say I was born into a whirlwind of energy and enthusiasm.
Life has taught me the value of hard work, a lesson instilled in me from an early age. Now, as I reflect on my roots, I'm eager to bring that same commitment to our school board.

Education

After earning my bachelor's degree in elementary education at UW-Milwaukee, I continued my educational journey, achieving a master's degree in special education, a degree in reading, and an administration license during my tenure in the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District. These educational milestones were not just personal accomplishments but opportunities to better serve students.
My commitment to furthering my education reflects a belief I carry into my role as a candidate for the School Board of Sussex Hamilton. I am determined to bring this passion for knowledge and growth to benefit the students, faculity and community members of the Sussex Hamilton School District.

Career

My journey in education has been a dynamic story, woven with experiences across various schools. It all began in Milwaukee Public Schools, where I kicked off my career as a dedicated 4th-grade teacher. As time unfolded, I embraced the opportunity to teach diverse levels, leaving an indelible mark in classrooms throughout the city.
A new chapter beckoned, leading me to a stint in a private school where I further honed my skills and perspectives. However, the call of public education pulled me back, and I found my home in the West Allis/West Milwaukee School District, a community I proudly served until my retirement.
During my tenure in West Allis/West Milwaukee, I held various roles, from a dedicated classroom teacher to a district-level coordinator, resource teacher, and reading specialist.
It was more than a career; it was a journey of dedication to education in all its facets. Now, I'm excited to continue that wealth of experience into advocating for the educational needs of the Sussex Hamilton School District on the school board.
